Scientific Data Management Specialist, Washington, D.C. area
Experienced data management specialist to facilitate the processing of large amounts of data in various forms.
The candidates for this position should be able to perform the following duties:
- Processisng, soliciting, and providing assistance with data submissions for scientific data from genome sequencing and genotyping experiments into existing databases;
- Analysing pipelines and associated data flows;
- Developing and improving the infrastructure supporting these systems;
Essential Skills:
- Formal Education (minimum: Masters of Science);
- Scripting experience in perl or related language;
- Experience with SQL;
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and related applications;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Proven record solving related problems;
- Experience with UNIX/Linux;
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of genetics, especially human genetics;
- QA filtering of genotype data (HWE, non-Mendelian segregation);
- Experience with grid computing (LSF,SunGrid, etc.);
- Experience with XML/XSLT and related web based tools;
Other:
- Must pass an entry level written test;
