Linux Application Systems Administrator, Washington, D.C. area
We are looking for a creative, intelligent, detail oriented person with a broad skill set in order to support a complex computer environment.
Responsibilities include provisioning services, monitoring, upgrading hardware and software, configuration management, and understanding and maintaining peripheral services and software.
Will operate, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot applications supporting a large enterprise of Linux & Windows servers.
Represents the organization as a technical contact. Interacts with senior personnel on technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Will take direction from the team lead and will work within a team-environment to achieve organizational goals.
Will provide technical solutions to a wide range of problems and user request through an established trouble ticketing system.
Responsibilities:
- Support of all monitoring applications responsible for the alerting and proactive monitoring of a large heterogeneous compute and network environment. The current environment uses Nagios, Ganglia, Cacti, Orca , Ciscoworks and alternative infrastructures proposals are acceptable and will be evaluated;
- Support the JIRA ticketing system installation;
- Support a very high performance and capacity data transfer environment;
- Support DNS, SMTP, Mailman, ftp, Apache web servers;
- Build and code utility applications and/or modules using languages such as sh/bash, perl, ruby, java, C. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions. May build add-on modules using application program language;
Requirements
- Must have knowledge of UNIX/Linux system administration;
- Must have a general knowledge of TCP/IP networking;
- Need to be a team player that can take direction and work closely with peers;
- Must be versed in UNIX/Linux operating system and have intermediate programming/scripting skills;
- Knowledge of monitoring toolsets such as Nagios, Cacti, Ganglia a plus;
- Bachelors Degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or equivalent professional experience;
